Indeed our over ambitous group got 76% percent for our documentary...we were told it can't be done...but guess what? WE DID IT, WE DID IT, WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!! We are officially the royals of the medium [note the big headedness - it's essential to carry the crown]. We did it! We did it! Na na na na na!
Okay, the joy is because we were under so much strain at the begining, we had no good story ideas that could carry through and we had no direction really. So for 3 of the 6 weeks we were given in the intensive, we had nothing, which meant we had 3 weeks to pull off what we were supposed to pull off in 6 weeks. And we came ontop of the game. We had a difficult story to tackle, with many storylines. We had to make a highly complex story fit into 5 min. We did it! not to say there aren't a few problems with the documentary, there are, for sure. There are things there that could be greatly improved. But I'm just proud of everyone in the group for pulling their weight and making the whole experience worth it.

If that's even spelled like that. Anyway, just finished uploading our final video for the documentaries that we had to produce for our television intensive. It was fantastic! The only downside with the web friendly version that I have just uploaded is that you can barely hear the music that we used as a bedding track for our piece, especially for the more long and boring parts with talking heads, where you need something like music as a device to move the arguments along. I've been in the comp-room with the Mac machine. The programmes on that baby are the BOMB! Where have I been all my life? Burried in Windows? What the heck? What's that all about? I wanted to buy a laptop earlier this year. I was gonna have windows, the whole shabam. Thank goodness it didn't happpen because "I KNOW OF A SURITY, THAT THE MAC IS TRUE" (where my Mormon peops at?). Final Cut Pro is the way forward and that Garage Band software, don't forget the iDVD, honey it's crazy up in dir! Okay, am officially a techno freak. Yes Apple has a candy interface but what it can do! oh baby! Okay. That's me for now. I'm spending my last few weeks getting well acquainted with it. So that's me peops, my next best friend is a Mac. Sorta sad how I'm just being sucked into the geek world like this. It's kinds cool as well anyhoo. Just check out the video " Too white and Nerdy" by Weird Al, except in my case it'll be "Black & Nerdy" Damnit! Assimilation is tightening its grip. You know what they say, once u go white you can't go back. HELL NO! I ain't in that deep y'all! TV Course

So we've been rolling the tape and taking a few shots of nothing while people on the street tell us to bugger of and quit filming them and then straight after try to get your number. So what's up with that? Any whoo wah. We had fun in the sun and it's amazing how different the pictures you take look different in the lense. Our next lesson was lighting. i think we got to understand some of the concepts but whether we did a good job or not in actually executing the task that we were given (three point lighting) is another question alltogether. So this week we are looking at editing and we are using Adobe Premier. Thought we'd be using Avid Pro but apparantly it's better to be aquainted with the former in order for it to be easier to use the latter. So, it's not a bad rationalisation but it would have been great to use what the pros use but one step at a time right? TV's good though, it really makes you think on how to conceptualise stories according to time frame, scope and medium used for the story telling. It's a good challenge. The downside however is that I got flu which means I'm tired all the time. Not good for production. It's also raining, continuously! I love rain and all but not when I'm sick. So it's back to editing in a few minutes.

Woza Masala

We've started a blog for our television production crew and we are called, Woza Masala - woza for bring on, and masala for mix, so it's bring on the mix coza there is a Xhosa, Indonesian, English and an Afrikaaner in the group. All four of us are in different nations. Cool huh? My sister says the name is crap and unimaginative. but that's okay, it serves our purpose for now. We even have a blog. I have been geekishly working on it for the past few days and I havn't gotten a template that I have been 100% satisfied with, but I guess it serves our purpose as well. Digital Citizen Indaba

The digital citizen indaba started yesterday. Bloggers from all over the continent and abroad came to the conference. The opening address discussed how we can get better news coverage as journlaists by partnering with bloggers from countries that are hardly ever covered. Then there was the editor's forum that discussed the means and ways that some editors have used blogging to the advantage of the companies that they work for. The debates that occured were stimulating and thought provoking. The spees speaking session also enlightened us on various topics such as how blogging can be used to inform th epublic about certain things such as finance, we also discussed the importanceof having wikipedia in different languages and so forth. It was really interesting, don't have much time to discuss the details right now but since I have to go listen to the panel of "we the mediae", but I'll come back with more detailed report, so watch this space.

After all, you can never trust these sanas around any man their morals are as loose as a prostitute's underwear. They are as deceitful as their Xhosa men - look at what they are doing to Zuma.

And what about the Dudu-comes-to-Jozi type of girl. You know mos, Zulu girl who starts wearing a fong kong gold tooth she bought on the corner Plein and Klein. She'll match the golden tooth with a looks-like-gold bracelet to show that she is a city girl now. Every opportunity she gets, she'll tell you she's wearing gold calat (note: not carat). After all, theseZulus can't pronounce R. and don't dare tell Dudu she's wearing fake - you know how violent these drummies are. She'll threaten you in her hard-core language, her pinafore will be tucked roughly inside her panties and you'll be promised an early meeting with your ancestors. Zulu girls are as rough and ignorant as their taxi-driving boyfriends.

Venda or Shangaan or Tsonga - are those people from South Africa, anyway?They speak funny, eat worms and raw foods like the Chinese and the women don't know what personal hygiene means. Show me a clean Venda women and I'll show you an honest Xhosa and peaceful Zulu.

Pedi and Swati women sound like retarded kids when they speak. And when they get excited they sound like a school ground of retarded children. Don't get me started on Sothos who eat horsemeat, and Tswana women are materialistic and money driven - Xhosas in disguise?

Coloured meisies always think they are better than us black sistas. But you know them - just crazy, without culture, smokers, baby makers and champion drunks.

If you belong to any of these ethnic groups, am I describing you? I don't think so and hope not. Then why do we judge each other by ethnicity when we know it is not true of us? I'd like to blame it on apartheid, but I think we know better by now.

We are all Africans and are blessed with great hearts and the willingness to forgive. Let go of your prejudice and you might find that you can befriend a Zulu girl, trust a Xhosa women, learn how to speak Tsonga, sharefood with a Venda and see the beauty of our rainbow people.

Yes, it took a while to eventually blog about my experience at the Sunday Times. the week was phenomenal. It was a real growing experience that helped me experience the real world of Jounralism first hand, in a big media company. At the same time I learned to appreciate my classmates even more as we became even more better acquanted with each other. It was fantastic.

Yep - 06 August to 13 August, we took our trip to the Sunday Times we had a fantabulistic time, bonding together as a class while getting a hands on experience in the working world.
It not only showed me what path I want to take in the future, but what avenues i should take in order to make what I want in life, happen. :) BIG SMILEY...I'M HAPPY 4 CHEESY

I don't know how many other people out there have a Xhosa blog, but baby I do! Just put up my first post, sure I have used Xhosa in my English blog but this one has just about everythingin Xhosa, even the prompts on the dashboard, sidebar, etc. Cool huh? So I have been a new media student for the past two years and these holidays I have been working with Cue TV and went on a couple of shoots during fest and did some editing and direscting of producing of my own and BOY OH BOY did I have a BALL!!! So this is definitly my next mediu mof choice, just crossing fingers that I will be accepted in 4th term on exception of passing my current course since I havn't done any of the work I was meant to do for the beginning of next term...I'll be right on it!:/ depending on whether anything distracts me from now on or not.

It is the kick - off of the Grahamstown Festival (National Arts Festival) and it is BIG. My first thingi majigi I watched was Carmen, it was absolutely fantastic, TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT PEOPLE! The stage setting and the dancing was very good with some very lively and colourful characters. But I am a word person and I always found it exciting when they used their voices and wished they used them more, not necessarily on speaking but screams, shouts etc...would've been real cool, but anyway, it is a ballet and dance is the focus. Can't wait 2 c some jazz and drama, should be quite a lekker fest...there are so many posters, so many shows and it is just crazy how the festival is just growing, it definitly seems bigger this year than the last...don't know what the official report says but anyhoo...Gonna have a GOOOOOOD TIME!

Let's make light of this...Zuma

On this week's cover of Drum we have Zuma on the front cover and his daughter with her arms around his neck and both are smiling at the camera. The headline goes something like this, "Daddy's hip-hop star". This month Zuma was found 'not guilty' at his rape trial and South Africans across the board were devided on the outcome. Some believed that he was guilty while others believe that he was framed and it was all a ploy to make sure that he would not succeed as South Africa's new president. Xhosas are quite strong in politics in this country and Zuma is Zulu and many feel that the Xhosas are trying to make sure that a Zulu, or any other group, never gets to be president of the country. Whether Zuma is guilty or not, is irrelevant here. What I feel this article puts forth is that a political leader who has no ethics and morals in staying true to his wife and family by refraining from any intimate relationships reserved for a spouse, with any other individual, and a politcal leader who has perpertuated a myth (that if you shower after sex you minimise contracting HIV) and endangering his wife's life by having sex with an HIV positive woman, should be celebrated and seen as a national hero. Zuma pulled a 'cultural' card in the trial by saying that in the Zulu culture, if a man is to lie with a woman he must go the whole 9 yards, he cannot stop before they actually do the deed and say he is not interested anymore. I'm am pretty sure that in the Zulu culture, it is also improper to lie with a woman that you are not married to...so I'm not sure what his point was in that regard. It is sad to see that a man who cannot be devout to his family, the thing that should be of a singular importance to a human being, is celebrated and is seen as a hero and is accepted by many to be a 'good' leader. If he cannot stay true in the home, how can he be true to the nation. A friend said something very important on this subject, she said that if Bill Clinton got into so much trouble for immorality at the oval office, how can Zuma be celebrated when he was accused of rape, cheated on his wife in his home where his daughter was just a couple of rooms down the hall, a man of no moral fibre who gives integrity no currency, be seen as a national hero?

So the debate rages on, I read a bit about the reaction of Pastors
around Grahamstown on the scrolls from the local newspaper "Grocott's Mail" and their responses are not quite what one would expect from learned men. The reasons for their rejecting the scrolls are not too good and some are not well informed either. They are rather rash in my opinion. I also do not believe that Jesus Christ conspired with Judas, if he did he would be a God of lies and not a God of Truth. There are more accounts that testify that Jesus is the Christ than there are about the turn of events that are described here and God has said that where there are two or more witnesses in my name, there will I be also. God works in mysterious ways and He imparts his secrets to his servants, but there should be more than one apostle or prophet to confess to this to make it true, and it should be an apostle who will Glorify God and not seek his own or the world. Other theories are that Jesus was alive on the cross and did not die, therefore no ressurection took place, he was merely taken away to recupperate, then how is it that "all nature sighed" and why is it that the signs and mysteries were not only seen in Jerusalem but an account of them is also given in the New World, and let us remeber that these people did not have the technology that we have to communicate to each other about these things. Anyway, still waiting for a response from Salt Lake, I was dissappointed to see the response that local Christian leaders, that were interviewed, had on this subject.

Judas creates hype almost 2000 years after his death. Definitly waiting for a response from Salt Lake on these manuscripts. In newspapers and TV stations worldwide, a hype has been raised about the "Lost scrolls" where it is suggested that Judas did not betray Jesus but did on fact did his bidding. The truth of this matter however remains debatable amongst the Christain Faiths. In the picture found in Jewsweek we see "An exhibit of artifacts from the Gospel of Judas is shown at The National Geographic Society in Washington, Thursday, April 6, 2006 during a news conference detailing the discovery of an ancient manuscript containing the only known copy of the Gospel of Judas. Less than 1% of the world's population listens to the prophet of the world. He gets less coverage than most religious leaders such as those who are in the Catholic, Jewish and Buddhist faiths. his religion also gets the most slack and criticism than most other religions.

he spoke this weekend to the ears that may listen and to the eyes that would hear. the weekend was filled with the most sweetest words that man could ask for in such times of trouble.

Lasers are my new craze. Okay, I always knew that the damn things were cool, but not this cool! It's currently the Sasol Scifest in Grahamstown. The place is usually filled with millions of small kids. Once you were on one of them now you feel so old.

Anyway this is about lasers not school. DAMN! So I find myself invited to the laser show by Lloyd Willford, owner of LaserX, the biggest laser company in South Africa, to come and see his laser show at 9:30 at the Guy Butler theatre.

So we wake up all doped up by those wonderful tranquilisers in our brains (my sister and i) quite disgruntled by having to wake up at such an ungodly hour. So we get ourselves to the Laser X truck which is parked right outside Canterbury house and we make our way to the monument.

9:00 strikes and we naturally get the best seats in the house. We get an introduction on lasers from Dr. Eizenberg on lasers and how they affect us in everyday life. This mini intro to lasers was then followed by the laser show.

As one sits on the luxurious seats of the theatre, music starts pumping from the surround speakers and an array of light spills from a central beam from the stage turning the theatre into a dance floor atmosphere. The scholars that filled up most of the seats start jumping up and down their seats screaming and the best part has not even come yet.

Smoke fills the room and the mirrors start doing their thing. Images start floating in the air and the beams become 3D. The atmosphere changes from a club dance floor atmosphere to what one would imagine floating through space in an array of light should be like.

Scholars reach out their hands to 'touch' the beams. It's amazing, it looks as though they are coming in from the big black into a tunnel in space and all present are floating into the centre. It's like a dream, it's fantastic. I'm going into the entertainment industry once I graduate and I must say, lasers are definitly going to be one of the toys that I'm going to be fiddling with. Election Day

Today is suppsed to be a public holiday, most people are either sleeping in their beds and others wake up early to go and vote. It's the 1st of March 2006, a few people around the country have been killed prior to the elections because of who they support. This has been especially hectic in Kwa-zulu Natal - Suprise, Suprise!

On the Journalism 4, New Media front however, Gregor and I wake up early to go and catch voters at the Joza and Grahamstown central, voting stations. Prior to this the class has covered a few stories on the elections and most people were still contemplating wether they were going to vote or not because of their dissatisfaction towards service delivery.

Those who voted today however, were optimistic because of the promises they had been given by their respective parties. An elderly couple stated that since they were pensioners, the government had goven them money therefore they were going to vote for it. Others stated that voting shows that you are part of the South African community and you are all working towards something and those who do not vote however do not see themselves as part of it.

I have looked into the faces of the poor and dissatisfied and how they have lost hope in their government, I have also looked into the faces of the poor and joyous, because of their hope in their government. The elite speak about the ridiculous amount of money that the pensioners get and the system they have to follow to get it, i.e. standing in long cues etc.

The elderly couple we spoke to,however, was grateful for the money they received and saw it their duty to vote so the government can continue raise the standard of living in South Africa.

Some said that those who do not vote are those who have either lost hope and do not see how the country has grown collectively or it is those who already have something and therefore do not care to vote.

This got me thinking, those who are comfortable, most of them anyway, really do not care to vote or register. Many people have struggled, fought wars and bled and died so we can vote. Every single one. Whether you be light skinned or dark skinned, male or female, our fathers and mothers have fought and died so we can vote. Whether it is the overthrowing of monarchies in Europe, fighting colonialism or gender inequalities, all have fought......

Okay, for all of you who don't know what I look like, this is me.

I'm definitly loading pictures of my family and stuff though so we can all blog together as a happy family, okay that's really corny but it is a Sunday afternoon and I am lank tired, had a hectic weekend and all.

So guys, (fam peopes) can you give me the 411 of the info I gave you guys on Sarah Ann Sixishe and Alec Nkomo, hectic, I never new I was related to the Nkomos before, that's cool, the tree is growing. I also need more information on what time period Bertram was in Bolotwa. I also need mom's side's info so I can look some of her info too.

This is really beginning to be interesting, sifting through all those cards in the Cory library looking for infromation on dead people.

Ah, well I suppose they are still alive, it's fun to know. My goodness I need to sleep.
